Rhyming is an early literacy skill that is essential in getting students ready to read and write. We will be working with rhyming a lot throughout the year. You can help your child develop this skill by playing rhyming games and reading books together that follow a rhyming pattern. Cutting and gluing are also skills we are developing. These fine motor tasks are important to help develop muscles and skills used for other fine motor tasks such as writing!

This week we started learning about making choices during Literacy time. We can all be working on the same skill, but in different ways. Allowing Kinders choices gives them empowerment and keeps them engaged and invested in their learning. Some of the choices we opened this week were: stamps, wiki stix, fine motor manipulatives, magnetic letters and white boards. Ask your Kinder which ones they tried!
This week we began exploring with some of the manipulatives we will use for Math. We worked with creating designs out of pattern blocks, making 3D shapes and designs, sorting, making patterns and connecting unifix cubes for counting. This was a great week for getting Kinders excited about Math!
On Friday we celebrated Grandparents Day! Kinders showed off their classroom and then we all gathered together in the cafeteria for a special snack and lots of smiles. Everyone had a fun time and it was so great to see everyone. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and donated items to make this event possible.
Friday afternoon we had our fist whole school assembly. This was a chance for everyone to gather together in the gym and welcome each other back and say hello to friends who are new to Danville School this year. It was also a great way for everyone to show their school spirit and end our first week back with some fun and excitement for the upcoming year. GO DANVILLE!
On Friday members of the Parent Teacher Group (PTG) came in to welcome all the Kinders to Danville School. The best part of their visit was that each Kinder got to choose their very own book to take home and keep forever! They got to choose from beautiful, funny, bright, brand new, hardcover books - and they were so excited! Along with this book the PTG included a letter to parents giving them a little information about the PTG. Please read it and consider joining us for our first monthly meeting this coming Wednesday, September 7th at 7pm in the school lobby. Coming to a meeting doesn't commit you to anything other than being informed - and we'd love to see you there!
You won't find and rows of desks in our classroom! I'm all about Kinders trying alternative seating to see what is most comfortable for them to help them learn best. Here are some of the seating options in our classroom. Ask your Kinder which ones s/he has tried and which one is his/her favorite so far.
Wow! What a fast and busy week here in Kindergarten! We are exploring, learning about, and practicing using the tools in our classroom. Kinders are working on building friendships, working in small groups, following directions, and building independence. You can help your Kinder with these skills at home too! (Practice things like putting jackets on, packing backpacks, opening and closing containers/baggies, etc). I am so excited about the great things that await us this year. I just know we are going to make a great team. Thank you for sharing your precious children with me! Watch the video below to take a peek at what we've been up to this past week.
Tomorrow, Friday September 2nd will be our first whole school assembly! This will be a fun assembly to welcome everyone back to school. We are also turning Friday into a School Spirit Day - show your spirit by wearing your green and white to school tomorrow!
