Each day one student is chosen to be the "official egg monitor". This student proudly wears a badge so everyone knows they're in charge of the eggs that day. This student is responsible for keeping an eye on the temperature and humidity inside the incubator to keep our eggs safe and growing. Only 13 days until hatch day!
On Thursday afternoon (day 7) we candled our eggs for the first time! We were able to see through most of our eggs to check for embryo growth, but some were too dark to tell. We candled all 26 eggs and found 12 that definitely had growing embryos inside, 7 that we weren't sure of, and 7 that didn't appear to have an embryo. We saw some amazing things inside - embryos where we could actually see hearts beating, blood vessels delivering food to the embryo from the yolk, and air sacs. We will candle our eggs 2-3 more times before our chicks hatch and we are very excited to watch them change and grow while being protected inside their shell and the incubator.
