Our Word Work station this week was practicing our trick words by playing a fun game of Headbandz! We put on our Mickey ears and practiced reading, spelling and writing these tricky, rule breaking words and we had lots of fun doing it!

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is pajama day! The class of 2016 has sponsored a pajama day. For $1 students can wear their pajamas to school. 25% of the profits will go to the Open Door and the remaining profits will support the class of 2016. We're all looking forward to a nice cozy day tomorrow! I've just added a new item to our wishlist section - cleaning wipes! Not very exciting, I know, but necessary in a classroom full of germs. My big, exciting purchase when Amazon did their "crazy, super sale" was a package of 4 large containers of Clorox wipes and we are just about out. We use these daily to clean our tables and counters in our classroom. If you are willing to contribute some we'd be ever so grateful!
On our last day before the Holiday Break Firsties celebrated together by making "snow"men and Winter Solstice ornaments. We've been learning about day and night and what causes us to experience both of them as well as how the days were getting shorter - perfect tie in to Winter Solstice and Snowmen at Night! We had so much fun reading Snowmen at Night together and laughing at all the silly things the snowmen were doing. After we finished the book we put on some Holiday Music and got creative to make some snowmen of our own. Shout out to Mrs. Remick for saving her coffee creamer bottles for an entire year to make this possible! Since I was busy manning the hot glue gun station, it was up to the Firsties to snap the photos and they did a great job! Enjoy!
Before the break we got together with our Big Pals to make gingerbread, (or graham cracker), houses! Everyone had so much fun and we had a bountiful supply of really awesome treats to use - Thank You First Grade Families! The kiddos were so creative in their designs and I wish I could bottle up the smiles and laughter that filled the room during this activity.
My apologies for not updating our blog the last week of school before vacation (or over vacation). I was busy enjoying some much needed fun time with my family - just as I hope you were able to do. So, although these posts coming your way are now late I hope you will still enjoy seeing all the fun we had leading up to vacation. |
