The Danville School Booster Club will also have crock pot food items for sale - come join us for dinner and trick or treating all in one place!

Big pals

Yesterday we got to meet our BIG Pals! Kinders have been matched up with a Big Pal from the 7th Grade class.  Throughout the year (about once a month) Kinders will get to work with their Big Pals to do some fun activities. This is a great opportunity for the younger students to connect with the older students that they often see around school. This helps build our sense of community and belonging here at school and reinforce our "Small School, Big Family" feel.  Our first activity involved Big Pals sharing their favorite books with their Little Pals and working together to make posters for Monday's pep rally.

Earlier this week we began filling our tool boxes with some of our learning tools that we will use throughout the year. The Kinders were SO excited to have their very own tool box.  Ask your Kinder about the learning tools we're using.

the mickey mouse club

One of the most exciting days so far this year was the day each Kinder became an official member of the Mickey Mouse Club! Our first Global Citizenship unit focuses on rules- what they are, why we have them, etc. This is a beginning step in creating our classroom community, and one we were proud to take. We know that to be a Mouseketeer you have to be:

Safe
Kind
Responsible
Growing (never give up, keep moving forward)

These 4 expectations are not only important in our classroom, but out in the world as well. We will work very hard on all of these all year long.  Below is a clip we watched from a movie called Meet the Robinson's. This is how we kicked off learning about our always growing brain and learning that failure is an important part of success - As Mouseketeers we Keep Moving Forward!

the daily 5

Similar to the Daily 3, The Daily 5 is a structure we use during our literacy time in Kindergarten. This framework provides Kinders with multiple opportunities to engage in authentic literacy learning independently, as well as with their peers. Although all 5 choices (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, Listen to Reading, Work on Writing) haven't been introduced yet, we have been very successful with the choices we've learned so far.

Here's what we've been working on:
We met our first Superkid, Cass! Cass loves to cook and has been helping us learn all about the letter C. We even had ice cream to celebrate what a great job we've been doing of using our ice cream lines (strawberry, vanilla, chocolate) to help us write our letter C's correctly. We also worked together to make a treat from Cass's Cookbook - A Crunchy Castle. Learning really IS fun!

The Daily 3 is a framework we use for our math time in Kindergarten. By using this structure Kinders are able to choose from a variety of way to work on their math skills. Although the activities change throughout the year, the 3 choices (Math by Myself, Math with Someone, Math Writing) do not. Here are a few pictures of us working with someone to discover hidden partners when decomposing numbers. "Five is the same as 2 and 3".
