Tomorrow (Thursday, Oct 1st) students can pay $1 to either have crazy hair or wear a crazy hat to school. All the money raised from this FUNdraiser goes towards All for Books. All for Books money goes directly to supporting Danville Students!

The PTG has changed the way the Box Tops challenges will work this year. Instead of doing two, large challenges, there will be a challenge each month. Each month, at our Community Meetings the class with the most Box Tops will be presented with the trophy shown in the above picture. At the end of the year the class with the most cumulative Box Tops will win a special prize. So please, continue to clip and send in your Box Tops! There is no need to wait or hold onto them. Send them in as frequently as you'd like. As an extra note: Did you know Box Tops must be submitted in packages (baggies) of 50 and that they must be trimmed completely? Don't worry If you're unable to send them to school this way, the PTG will continue make sure they are ready for submission, but we'd love any help we can get with making this task easier. Thanks so much for your support! Today Firsties went to Dartmouth College to see a very special performance of Junie B. Jones. The show was amazing and everyone enjoyed it. I was so impressed with the fantastic audience members our Firsties were. After the show the actors came back on stage to answer a few questions. They even shared with us where they went to First Grade! Wearing your tie dye shirt helps easily identify our group (and it's fun)! We will have snack before we leave and enjoy our lunches there after the performance. Please remember to pack your child a lunch if you did not already order a bagged lunch from the cafeteria. We will be leaving promptly at 8:15 tomorrow (Monday) morning.
On Friday afternoon our class celebrated reaching our Read to Self goal of 15 minutes! What this means is that consistently our entire class has been engaged in 15 minutes of daily Read to Self time, without anyone being off task. This is AMAZING! The Firsties were so proud of themselves and we celebrated with Popsicles and an extra recess before our Community Meeting. Reminder: Scholastic book orders are due this Friday, September 25th. You can either order online or by sending the flyer order form(s) back to school with your payment. By ordering books through this reading club our classroom earns points and we turn those points into free books for our classroom! Take a look at the extra points and benefits our class can earn this month. We even have a class wishlist of books here. Our class activation code is ND3VG
You can order by clicking this button This Friday, September 25th is our first Elementary School Community Meeting. The meeting is in the cafeteria and runs from 1:55-2:30. The theme for this day is Spirit Day - so wear your green and white and show your Danville spirit! As always, families and community members are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
Last week Firsties spent some time talking about friendships and what it means to be a good friend. We read books about friendship, watched videos about making friends, and read a Scholastic News magazine that was all about places you can find friends. Then they got together with a friend to show you some of the things they like to do with their friends here in First Grade. Please enjoy our video!
Don't forget to wear your smile to school tomorrow! First Grade will take our pictures in the morning. Each child will have his/her picture taken regardless of whether or not you are ordering pictures. We will also take a class photo.
