Today in our outdoor classroom we read the book Leaf Man. Then we got to make our own Leaf Creatures. Take a look at what we made! Our first two weeks have been awesome! We've really enjoyed our outdoor classroom. Math by myself and flexible seating are well under way, and we're just so happy to be together. Here's a peek at what we've been up to. Packets are in the office and ready for pick up! Here is the letter I sent home with packets giving you some information on how to use the items. Keep yourselves healthy!
We've been very busy growing our brains here in Kindergarten over the last few weeks. Bobby from The Fairbanks Museum visited and taught us about Vermont animals in the Winter, and we even got to pet some animals pelts. We also started a new Math unit where we are learning about measuring. So far we've measured how long or tall things are, and we've just started discussing how to measure the weight of something. Probably one of the most exciting things happening is that WE ARE READING AND WRITING! We have learned enough letter and sound combinations to help us start really reading and writing words, and we are so proud of ourselves!
I meant to share this with you all over Christmas break, but it just didn't happen - sorry. We had a great time celebrating the season together. I hope your New Year is off to a great start!
On Wednesday afternoon Michael from the Fairbanks Museum came to talk to our class about geometry we can find in nature. We looked at many different examples of shapes we can find in nature. Ask your Kinder what shapes they've been learning about and see if they can find them in your house or out in nature!
This is our FAVORITE Thanksgiving story! Please ask your Kinder to tell you all about it. In honor of Thanksgiving, and the turkey in this story, our class will have a special Thanksgiving Feast on Tuesday, November 26th. We will be making homemade english muffin pizzas and eating together in our classroom. If your Kinder does not eat pizza, you may choose to either send in a lunch for them, or they may get a sandwich from the cafeteria. If you are able to contribute to the ingredients for our feast please click the link below to sign up.
So far this year our math focus has been on working with numbers 0-10. Before we move on to our next unit (Geometry), we had some fun with a mystery number museum. Each Kinder was given a mystery number they had to represent in many different ways. Once everyone set up their exhibit we took a tour of the museum to see if we could figure out each Kinder's mystery number. Ask your Kinder what their mystery number was!
